Servant Life partners with a local ministry in Kenya committed to the spiritual and physical transformation of marginalized and underprivileged communities. Our partner serves children, students, families, widows, pastors, and other vulnerable populations through long-term, Gospel-centered relationships and community development.
 

Teams will have the opportunity to experience ministry in two distinct areas of Kenya. The first portion of the trip will take place in Nairobi, including ministry in Kibera and other underserved communities throughout the city. Teams will serve alongside local staff, pastors, and volunteers through opportunities that may include evangelism and discipleship, children and student ministry, mentorship, leadership development, compassion ministry, and practical support for families.
 

During the trip, teams will take a short in-country flight from Nairobi to Kisumu before traveling to Siaya, a more rural area of western Kenya. There, teams will participate in similar Gospel-centered ministry while experiencing the needs, communities, and ministry opportunities of a more remote setting.
 

Whether serving in the urban communities of Nairobi or the rural communities of Siaya, teams join ministry that is already taking place throughout the year. The goal is not simply to complete projects during a week in Kenya, but to strengthen the ongoing work of local believers who continue discipling, serving, and investing in their communities long after a team returns home.

Note: Teams will be working in the Kisumu area of Kenya for a portion of their trip. Most teams will fly from Nairobi to Kisumu. This is only a 35 minute flight. Our team will assist you in booking this in-country flight.

What will my team be doing? 

Ministry in Nairobi can look different from week to week depending on the needs of our partner and the communities they serve. Teams should come prepared to build relationships, share the Gospel, encourage local believers, and serve wherever they can best support the ministry's ongoing work.
 

Teams may have opportunities to serve through:

• Student Evangelism & Discipleship: Engage students through school-based ministry, Gospel presentations, testimonies, small groups, Bible teaching, and relationship-building. Swahiba's student ministries focus not only on introducing young people to Christ, but also on connecting them with ongoing discipleship and Christian leadership.

• Children's Ministry & VBS: Help lead Bible lessons, games, songs, crafts, and other activities designed to share the Gospel and encourage children. Swahiba also provides ongoing discipleship and camp experiences for children in underserved communities.

• Youth Mentorship: Encourage young men and women through mentorship, discipleship, life-skills training, and conversations about identity, relationships, purity, leadership, and following Christ.

• Family & Community Outreach: Visit families in underserved communities, pray with them, share the Gospel, and help distribute food and other practical resources. These visits allow teams to serve alongside local leaders who have established relationships within the community.

• Widow Ministry: Encourage and pray with widows while supporting Swahiba's ongoing efforts to provide fellowship, discipleship, practical assistance, and opportunities for greater stability and independence.

• Young Offender Ministry: Serve alongside Swahiba as they minister to young people in the juvenile justice system through encouragement, mentorship, Gospel-centered teaching, and relationship-building.

• Sports Outreach: Use soccer and other recreational activities to connect with children and students, build relationships, and create opportunities for Gospel conversations.

• Compassion Ministry: Participate in ministries that meet practical needs while intentionally pointing people toward Christ. Opportunities may include food distribution, foot washing and shoe distribution, community visits, and other outreach projects.

• Community Development & Service Projects: Assist with practical projects that strengthen local communities and ministry programs. Depending on current needs, this could include construction, cleanup, beautification, tree planting, or other hands-on service.

Teams with specialized experience may also have opportunities to support medical outreach, vocational training, pastor and church-leader training, or other ministry initiatives when coordinated in advance.
 

No two weeks will look the same. Specific ministry opportunities are based on current needs, school schedules, local partnerships, and the gifts and abilities of each team.

What does a general weekly schedule look like?

• Friday. Depart from the U.S. in the evening.

• Saturday. Arrive in Nairobi and travel to the Ministry Center.

• Sunday. Worship with the local church. Afternoon: Cultural activities

• Monday - Friday. Ministry days with local ministries: Evangelism & Discipleship, Construction, Visitation & Encouragement Ministry Among Orphans & Widows (Note: all ministry materials are included in the cost of registration). Most groups will travel to Siaya on Tuesday afternoon.

• Saturday. Depart from Nairobi in the evening and arrive back in the U.S. on Sunday.

What does my cost include?​

• Kenya Electronic Travel Authorization. Each person will fill out an electronic travel authorization in order to go through customs and enter the country, and this is included in the cost.

• In-country transportation.  From the moment you land at the airport until the moment you leave, we will take you everywhere during the week. You will not need to arrange your transportation, but teams should be prepared to do some walking as we navigate different villages and communities.

• Housing. Your team will stay at a guest house with twin beds and access to bathrooms and showers.

• Meals. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, every day! (Note: You need to pay for your own meals at the airport, while traveling, etc.)

• Supplemental Traveler's Medical Insurance. In the event of a medical emergency, you'll be covered with an international policy! *Interested in upgrading to a more comprehensive insurance plan that includes trip cancellation and interruption coverage? • T-Shirt. Every participant gets an awesome mission trip t-shirt.

• Pre-Trip Training Material. We provide training sessions, trip overview documents, assistance from our team of mission trip experts, and communication with in-country missionaries to make sure your group is fully prepared for your trip.

• Pre, During, and Post-trip Devotionals. This 4-week printed missions journal will help every team member grow and encounter Christ.
   

Airfare from the United States is not included in the trip cost, but will be taken care of by Servant Life's travel agent who gets humanitarian rates and often free baggage. You may book on your own if you prefer to do so, but we ask to approve the itinerary first. Cost if inter-country flight is included.

* A yellow fever vaccine may be required for travel to and service in Kenya; please visit your primary care doctor for more information and to ensure you meet all vaccination requirements.

Add-Ons: ​

• Many groups take their last day to explore one of the many tourist locations around Nairobi including a safari in the Nairobi National Park. This is an additional fee of approximately $120 per person.
