Kosovo is one of Europe's youngest countries—and home to one of its youngest populations.
 

Located in the heart of the Balkans, Kosovo declared independence in 2008 following a difficult history that included the Kosovo War of the late 1990s. Today, more than 1.6 million people call Kosovo home, and the average age is just 34.8 years.
 

Kosovo is predominantly Muslim, particularly among the ethnic Albanian majority, while Catholic, Serbian Orthodox, and small Protestant Christian communities are also part of the country's religious landscape. For many Kosovars, religious identity is closely connected to family, culture, and heritage. Evangelical believers represent a small minority, making partnership with and encouragement of the local church an important part of our ministry in Kosovo.
 

Kosovo also has a unique relationship with the United States because of America's role during and following the Kosovo War. For American mission teams, that history can help create natural opportunities for friendship and conversation. Our goal isn't simply to arrive with a program—it is to serve alongside believers who live and minister in Kosovo every day, build genuine relationships, and help strengthen their long-term work.

What will my team be doing? 

​

No two weeks in Kosovo look exactly the same. Ministry opportunities are flexible and often depend on the needs of local churches and the communities being served. Teams should arrive with servant hearts, a willingness to build relationships, and the flexibility to jump into a variety of ministry opportunities.
 

Teams may serve through:

• Kids' camps and adventure camps

• Youth ministry and college student outreach

• English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and conversation groups

• After-school programs and youth centers

• Ministry among the Roma community

• Worship nights and special church events

• Community outreach, including kids' day carnivals

• Street evangelism and relationship-building

• Serving alongside local churches and new church plants
   

Relationships are at the heart of ministry in Kosovo. Kosovo's culture is highly relational, and meaningful conversations often develop through simply spending time together. Teams should expect ministry to happen over coffee, during a youth event, while walking through the city, or through conversations that develop naturally while serving alongside local believers.
 

A unique part of the ministry is a Christian-owned coffee shop that provides a welcoming environment for relationships and conversations about faith. Teams may spend time there meeting college students and young adults, building friendships, and engaging in meaningful conversations about Jesus in a natural setting.
 

Help Build the First Christian Camp in Kosovo

Our ministry partners have purchased property with a vision of developing it into the first Christian camp in Kosovo. Their prayer is for the property to become a place where children, teenagers, college students, families, and churches can gather for camps, retreats, worship, leadership development, and discipleship.
 

Mission teams have the opportunity to become part of that long-term vision. Depending on the team's skills and the stage of development, groups may assist with construction and work projects, prepare the property and facilities, or serve during camps and special events.
 

The goal is much bigger than completing a project. Teams are helping local believers develop a ministry space that can continue serving the church and sharing the Gospel long after the team returns home.

Kosovo is an especially good fit for teams that enjoy relational ministry. The culture places a high value on hospitality and friendship, and our partners encourage teams to slow down, listen, learn, and invest in people rather than measuring the week simply by how many activities they complete.
 

Whether you are leading a kids' activity, talking with a university student over coffee, helping with a construction project, worshiping alongside a local church, or simply spending time with a new friend, your team has the opportunity to encourage believers and support the long-term work of the Gospel in Kosovo.
 

Come ready to be flexible. Come ready to serve. And come ready to build relationships with people who may have had very few opportunities to personally know a follower of Jesus.

What does a general weekly schedule look like?

​

• Friday. Depart from the U.S. in the evening.

• Saturday. Arrive in Kosovo and travel to a selected lodging location for orientation.

• Sunday. Orientation / Church

• Monday - Thursday. Ministry days.

• Friday. Cultural Tour

• Saturday. Depart from Kosovo and arrive back in the U.S. on the same day.

What does my cost include?​

• Housing. Your team will stay at a local hotel or guesthouse while in Kosovo.

• Meals. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day (Note: You need to pay for your meals at the airport while traveling or on tourist excursions, etc.)

• Supplemental Traveler's Medical Insurance. In the event of a medical emergency, you'll be covered with an international policy! *Interested in upgrading to a more comprehensive insurance plan that includes trip cancellation and interruption coverage? • T-Shirt. Every participant gets an awesome mission trip t-shirt.

• Pre-Trip Training Material. We provide training sessions, trip overview documents, assistance from our team of mission trip experts, and communication with in-country missionaries to make sure your group is fully prepared for your trip.

• Pre-, During, and Post-trip Devotionals. This 4-week printed missions journal will help every team member grow and encounter Christ.

• In-country transportation. From the moment you land at the airport until the moment you leave, we will take you everywhere during the week. You will not need to arrange your transportation, but teams should be prepared to do some walking as we navigate different villages and communities.

​Airfare is not included in the trip cost but will be taken care of by Servant Life's travel agent, who gets humanitarian rates and often free baggage. You may book on your own if you prefer to do so, but we ask that our staff approve the itinerary first.
