Servant Life partners with Urban Impact Foundation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Their heart is to serve at-risk children and families in the North Side of Pittsburgh through discipleship and service.

Pittsburgh is the second largest city in Pennsylvania with a population of 307,668. The city has a rich industrial history where it is known for its production of iron and steel in the 19th and 20th centuries. It eventually earned its nickname the “Steel City” as it became a hub for natural resources. Pittsburgh is also known for its sports history where it is home to the well known sports teams the Steelers (baseball), Pirates (football), and Penguins (hockey).

Most of Pittsburgh’s rich history came out of the North Side, where our partner primarily serves. There are several historic districts and museums where its culture is on display.

The founder of Urban Impact, Pastor Ed, noticed a great need in the North Side of Pittsburgh, prompting him to establish this organization. Pastor Ed and his wife, Tammy, moved to North Side in 1986 where four out of five homes were boarded up. Pastor Ed had his car stolen three times in just 7 years of living there. Questioning how he could minister to this community, the Lord called him to establish Urban Impact to reach one person, one family, one block at a time. Since then, Urban Impact has created summer day camps for children, provided performing arts training, established their ManUp conference, and formed partnerships with local schools, all to make the name of Jesus known to the North Side.

In partnership with Urban Impact Foundation, teams can join them in one of their many outreach programs that aim to minister to the community. With the goal of sharing the gospel, Urban Impact strives to build relationships with the populations in which they serve. They value discipleship and desire to see the next generation built up by the gospel to become faithful followers of Christ. Not only do they make disciples in the community, but they build up disciples in their teams as well. Urban Impact provides missionary training for the teams that serve alongside them.

Mission opportunities with Urban Impact Foundation exist in a variety of ways. They serve the community through sports, education, and performing arts to reach the hearts of children and families. There are also opportunities in construction/renovation projects, prayer walking, Bible clubs, and block parties.
