What’s stopping you from going on a mission trip?

You don't have enough time. You don't have enough money. You don't have enough support. You haven't been a Christian long enough.

"Enough" is a limiting word. And chances are, it's stopping you from going on a mission trip. However, is "enough" a good enough reason not to go?

Consider the story from John 6. It's the story where Jesus feeds five thousand. We've all heard the story and know how it ends, but do you remember the beginning? Jesus turned to Philip and asked him, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” The Bible tells us in verse six that, "He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do."

Then in verse seven Philip responds, "Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!"

Enough was a limiting word back then, too.

Philip looked at the situation, looked at what he had to offer, and concluded that it couldn't be done. He didn't have enough. The problem with Philip's outlook, however, is that he only took into consideration what he could contribute. He didn't consider what Jesus was capable of. Could you imagine? Saying, "We wouldn't have enough" while standing eye-to-eye with the Son of God? I bet Jesus chuckled a bit.

Then Jesus does a miracle. He takes the little bit of food that the disciples had to offer and he multiplies it.

If not having enough time, money, or support is stopping you from going on a mission trip, then you're only looking at what you have to offer. Maybe Jesus wants to do something incredible in your life. Maybe Jesus wants you to rely on Him for your needs. Maybe Jesus is testing you. Remember, John 6:6 says that Jesus was testing Philip through this situation. Now the passage doesn't say exactly what Jesus was testing, but I'm guessing that Jesus was testing his faith.

Jesus asked Philip to do something totally unreasonable: feed thousands of people on a whim. Jesus knew it would be impossible for him to do on his own. But Jesus also had a plan.

Does raising $3,000 sound daunting? Does finding the time to "go" for 2 weeks, 2 months, or even 2 years seem crazy? Does trying to spread the love of Christ to an entire community or nation seem impossible? Maybe Jesus is up to something. Maybe He has a plan for you.

Enough is enough. It's time to give Jesus everything you've got and watch Him multiply it.
