Servant Life partners with a Christ-centered ministry in Guatemala who is operating with a mixture of American and Guatemalan leadership. With a ministry focus in both rural villages as well as urban communities, the ultimate goal is to reach the lost of Guatemala by going into communities alongside the local church and soon-to-be-planted churches, and reach children and adults with the gospel through VBS, block parties, home visits, evangelism, shoe and clothing distribution, face paint, cotton candy, labor projects, and many other creative ways to show the love of Christ. As the ministry has developed over the years, more and more leadership has transitioned to the native staff from Guatemala; the Guatemalan leaders have always been a key to the success of the ministry, but they love support from short-term teams to support their ministry and to build the local church! Our rural ministry site is connected to 17 different nearby villages where we are working to share the gospel through relational ministry, so every different team who comes down will work in a specific community for the entire week.

What will my team be doing?

Teams will be a part of ministry either in Guatemala City or a more rural location about an hour outside of the city while serving with youth, children, and their families through a variety of ministry avenues. Typically, teams will stay at a rural base camp outside the city or at a missionary house in the heart of the city (both are extremely safe and are gated for your protection). Most days, your team will have the opportunity to go into the school systems to put on VBS-type activities for a few hundred students at a time! Groups may also have the opportunity to participate in light construction, food and clothing distribution, and home visits to the surrounding community. (supply costs extra) Home visits are a great opportunity for ministry, as we not only show up bringing food for families and asking how we can be praying for them, but we also have opportunities to share the gospel with them and get them connected to the local church. Your team will also get a day of rest to enjoy the historic city of Antigua, where you can have a free day exploring the city, the market, etc., or you can pay a bit extra for some additional activities (ziplining, chocolate making experience, coffee plantation tour).
